Argh, she caught onto us…

Posted by Sandra on October 10, 2008

The toddler, that is.

Look, we’re not a strict family – we like it that way.  And we eat dessert after every dinner.  I grew up that way.  My hubby grew up that way.  It’s the norm.  And those desserts are usually sugary wonderful heavenly things like ice cream.  Yum.  And there’s nothing wrong with that.  I hope I instill this “tradition” into my kids’ lives for their families.

And we’ve never been a “clean your plate” family, because that is really not a good thing.  Moms load up their kid’s plates then make them sit there ’til it’s gone.  Not good.  This leads to eating problems, really it does.

That being said, I know precisely how much dinner to give my three year old so that she 1) won’t be overwhelmed with how much is on her plate, and 2) will actually eat it all.

Tonite we’re having chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream for dessert (insert mouth watering here) and she didn’t finish her meal… I told her she could have her bowl when her dinner’s all done.

To which she replied, “But Mama, if I eat my dinner all gone, I won’t be hungry for ice cream!!”

Ah, she caught onto me.
